Education

Brookline is a part of the superb Public Schools of Brookline. There is one high school, followed by seven schools that house grades K-8. There is also a devotion school, which serves the traditional K-8 programs and includes a Hebrew-language program. In fact, due to Brookline's diversity, many of the schools have Interlingua programs. For instance, Pierce School has a Chinese English Language Learner Program and Runkle School has a Spanish Language Learner Program. These innovative programs are partly what help make the Public Schools of Brookline a great educational experience.

In addition, there are a number of higher education institutions located in and near Brookline. Newbury College is a four year small liberal arts college that prides itself on its small student-faculty ratios. Hellenic College is a four year liberal arts college located in Brookline that has an Orthodox Christian basis. Of course, Boston itself is known as a Mecca for colleges and universities as over 70 are located in the city and neighboring communities. Some of these include Emerson College, Berklee College of Music, Boston University, Cambridge College and the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Attractions

There is no shortage of cultural, intellectual, entertaining and simply fun activities to do in Brookline! For history lovers, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site features a refurbished home designed to look like the childhood home of our country's 35th President. An assortment of memorabilia can be viewed here and during the summer months, visitors can explore the house by taking part in a guided tour.

For movie patrons, The Coolidge Corner Theatre holds nearly every genre of film imaginable from Operas to Goethe German Film. Previous shows have included Europe's Grand Operas, special presentations of 80s cult classics and psychiatric films in which members of the Boston Psychoanalytic Society come out to discuss the films. This Theatre is indeed a unique movie experience that is a must-see for locals and visitors.

The Brookline Farmers Market, which takes place from June to October, holds fresh produce from local farmers in the area. In addition, Summer Concerts in Emerson Park is a great place to gather friends and family for a great evening of entertainment.

Parks and Recreation

Brookline is known for having amazing recreational parks and facilities. Among them, golfers will absolutely adore the emerald Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course. This stunning public 18-hole course features Tee-Time specials, adult and children's lessons, a luxurious Clubhouse and a full-service pro shop. Local tournaments are also held here throughout the year.

Ice skaters will be happy to skate on over to the Larz Anderson Park. The largest park in all of Brookline, Larz holds a spacious outdoor skating rink that is perfect for everything from a hockey game to figure skating. In addition, the park holds barbecue pits, playgrounds and a beautiful hill that overlooks all of Boston. This scenic spot is a favorite among visitors and locals and is often described as a perfect place to watch a gorgeous sunset.

Fisherman will enjoy the long Brookline Reservoir, a man-made body of water that is strictly made for fishing and boating. However, a jogging track surrounds the perimeter of the reservoir, making it a rather lovely place for a stroll.
